Diana Mason

Dr. Mason was an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at the UNT until her retirement in 2012.  She co-authored 14 peer refereed research articles in the area of chemistry education and 44 Journal of Chemical Education editorials during the five year period that she served as the journal’s secondary school section editor.  In recognition of her many contributions to the chemistry profession, she was named a 2011 Fellow of the American Chemical Society and was the recipient of the 2015 E Ann Nalley Southwest Regional Award for Volunteer Service to the ACS.

Research interests of the Mason group lie in the field of chemistry education specifically highlighting high school preparation for freshmen chemistry and the improvement of teaching general chemistry. Projects include the study of various teaching and learning strategies for chemistry (including e-instruction) and in science teacher preparation.

Dr. Mason was the founder of the UNT Mean Green Chemistry Demo Team, which consisted of a group of UNT chemistry graduate and undergraduate students who presented chemistry shows and demonstrations at public and private schools in Texas and before professional/civic/scientific organizations throughout the US.
