Dr. Amina Khalifa El-Ashmawy (PhD 2006) is the 2015 U.S. Professor of the Year (the
pinnacle award for collegiate teaching) awarded by the Carnegie Foundation for the
Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Amina has taught at Collin College for nearly 25 years. She is a pioneer in developing
online chemistry curriculum and taught undergraduate research classes in the college's
Center for Advance Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Outside the classroom,
she is a published author with multiple journal articles and textbook credits to her
name, including a chapter in the upcoming "Sputnik to Smartphone: A Half-Century of
Chemical Education." Dr. El-Ashmawy was also honored as a 2015 Minnie Stevens Piper
Professor and the 2014 Outstanding Professor from Collin College.
Dr. El-Ashmawy was the first PhD student of Dr. Diana Mason at the University of North
Texas.
