Lecoq de Boisbaudran

1838-1912

He was the French chemist who discovered gallium, samarium, and dysprosium. He developed methods of separating the rare earths, thereby greatly untangling the confusion regarding this group of elements. He also developed methods of spectroscopy which he used to identify these elements. With Bunsen, Kirchhoff, and Crookes, he is regarded as one of the founders of spectroscopic analysis.
