Robert Wilhelm Bunsen

1811-1899

 

  He was a professor of chemistry at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany, who invented the Bunsen burner, which emitted a blue flame rather than yellow. With Kirchhoff he developed spectroscopic analysis using his flame technology with which they discovered cesium and rubidium.
