On September 18, 1764 classes were first taught by N. J. Jacquin." Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin (1727-1817) was a Dutch scientist who studied medicine, botany, and chemistry. (Although Jacquin started teaching in 1764, the mining school itself was not founded until 1770).
