The site manager (left), Dr. Paul Slate of the Royal Arsenal Woolwich Historical Society (middle), and the author (JLM, right) discuss the possible location of the laboratory, associated with the lecture hall. In addition to his research in explosives for the Arsenal, Cruickshank introduced chlorine fumigation of hospital wards; pioneered the analysis of sugars in urine; invented the Trough Battery, which used an electrolyte solution instead of moistened paper between electrodes; and was perhaps the first the electroplate metals such as silver and copper.
