Electrochemical production of bioapatite standards for bone

The focus of project is to synthesize a suitable standard reference material for bone and develop and validate an analytical method that will resolve matrix effects in LA-ICP-MS analysis of bone tissue.

Our synthesis method produces a synthetic bone standard which more closely matches human bone as a suitable matrice in LA-ICP-MS. SEM of laser ablation grid performed on bone showing optimal laser ablation conditions for LA-ICP-MS developed for our pressed powder calibration standards and the bone.

LA-ICP-MS studies of metal ion contamination in human remains

The focus of this project is to obtain qualitative and quantitative data of elemental compositions in human bone which can be correlated to DNA extraction efficiency.

Section of bone imaged by LA-ICP-MS going from outer hard bone to inner spongy bone. LA-ICP-MS 2D imaging of isotopes 43Ca and 57Fe in a small section of the bone.

Electrosynthesis of biocompatible coatings for implants and drug delivery

In this study we examined the experimental parameters that effect the electrochemical deposition of hydroxyapatite and the effectiveness of the coating through corrosion tests.

Electrodeposited HA porous formation and corrosion resistance improvement for HA coatings on surgical steel.
