This plaque in the main entrance of the Main Building way tells us:
"University founded in 1825 as the Polytechnic School, the oldest technical high school in Germany. In 1836 the main building was erected. In 1864 there was extension to the east, with new main entrance. Architect Heinrich Hübsch and Friedrich Th. Fischer. In 1865 was named the 'Technische Hochschule' ('Technical High School'). In 1902 was named "Fridericiana" after the Grand Duke. In 1967 was designated a University."
