Another rendition of the Second Chamber, where the historical chemical sessions took place. The critical moment in the Congress occurred when the Italian scientist Cannizzaro presented all of the known chemical and physical data and condensed it into a table of correct atomic weights for the elements. Previously, it was unclear whether the values of some elements were multiples or fractions of published values. From this understanding the first true modern Periodic Tables were produced by Mendeleev and Meyer before the end of the decade. Courtesy, Stadtbibliothek im Ständehaus, Karlsruhe, Germany.
