The Ständehaus (building to right) was the turning point of modern chemistry in 1860. Here more than 140 chemists from around the scientific world met in the Chemical Congress (Chemiker Kongress) to discuss solutions to problems plaguing chemical theory. This congress was held September 3-5, 1860. The view is westward along Friedrichplatz.
