This is an old photograph of the institute. Left: "Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Chemistry. Right: Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry." Fritz Haber joined the Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry in 1911 upon leaving the University of Karlsruhe {LINK: to Haber monument in Karlsruhe}. His life was fraught with controversy where his Haber process (invented in Karlsruhe) was used both for peaceful purposes (synthesis of fertilizers) and warfare (poison gas, explored at Dahlem).
