This is the appearance of the gate to the École Polytechnique today. This school served in the history of "Rediscovery" in its role with boron and iodine; boron was isolated in its elemental state by Gay-Lussac and Thénard in 1808 (simultaneously with Davy in London); and iodine was confirmed as an element similar to chlorine by Gay-Lussac in 1813 (again, simultaneously with Davy in London). Notice the "Histoire de Paris" post to the left of the door, hidden behind the iron fence (see below). The view is southeast; the gate itself is north-south.
