The future Rue Saint-Ambroise is shown as reaching northeast (left) from Rue de Popincourt, a portion of which still exists today. The Annonciades de Popincourt was a convent which existed at this site 1636-1780. Then the building became barracks for grenadiers and guards, just in time for the French Revolution. It later became a church, but was demolished in the 1860s and rebuilt to become the modern Saint-Ambroise Church.
