Peter Grigorovich Sobelevsky

1777 - 1845

 

 

He was appointed director of the chemical laboratory at the Mining Cadet Corps in 1826. He was responsible for the initial analysis of the newly discovered platinum samples from the Urals in the early 1820s, and developed the Russian procedure for producing malleable platinum, from which platinum coins were minted 1828-1844.
