Jedrzej Andrei Sniadecki

1768-1838

He was a professor of chemistry at the University of Vilno, Poland, who isolated a new element he called vestium. It is now clear that he had isolated a crude sample of ruthenium. Confirmation was lacking and credit has not been given to him for the discovery.
