Previous | Home | NextOur goal is to visit Vergara, where the Elhuyar brothers first prepared metallic tungsten, and where Chabaneau worked out the first procedure for preparing malleable platinum. Vergara is in the highlands of Basque country. Traveling up into the mountains, where the chemistry laboratory of Vergara is located, was best accomplished by hiring a local taxi driver, who was bilingual in Spanish (to communicate with us) and in Basque (to ask for directions with the local populace).
