This is an old drawing dating from the founding of the university in 1765, the Hörsaal (lecture hall) of the university. Almost simultaneously, five mining academies were established in Europe -- at Freiberg (1765), Schemnitz (1770), St. Petersburg (1773), Almadén (1777), and Paris (1778). Freiberg was the first.
