"This place, inaugurated in 1763, was originally named 'Place Louis XV.' From November 1792 to May 1795, now called 'Place de la Révolution,' this was the principal site of public executions, which included Louix XVI 21 January 1793 and Marie-Antoinette 16 October 1795." The total list is uncertain; estimates range from 16,000 to 40,000. Among the tens of thousands executed at this site was Lavoisier.
