This is today's view southwest along Temple Row. There is no trace of the original hotel (which would be on the left) where the famous dinner of 1791 took place. St. Philip's Cathedral is at the end of these buildings, to the right. The chairman of the dinner was James Keir, a chemical industrialist and one of the members of the Lunar Society (see above).Warned that there might be trouble, the dinner broke up by 6 p.m. Ironically, Priestley, probably the main focus of the gathering mob, did not attend. The rioters gathered by 7-8pm -- too late to confront the participants.
