Important towns associated with the platinum industry are identified. Condoto is known as the "Platinum Capitol of Colombia." Andagoya was historically a very productive site for dredging operations (see below for a photo). Andagoya is now known by the new name Medio San Juan (name changed in 2000). Istmina originally had the name San Pablo, founded in 1834; its name was changed in 1903. Rio Iró is a new village, founded in 2000.
