Rugged - BackPack Mass Spectrometer Mass Spectrometry and Portability

The BackPack Portable Mass Spectrometer has 2 inlets currently. A direct inlet sampling and a Membrance-Inlet system. The later is 2ppb sensitive to aromatic hydrocarbons, and has been used for air and water quality monitoring. Recently it was deployed to the Sub-Antartic Region, which can be viewed here.

Below map image is the coupling of the BackPack MS to GPS. The data is then outputed in KML file, which is a Google Earth (TM) mark-up language in which exposures to chemicstries can be mapped directly. The below image KML is here. The below map is of University of North Texas Main Campus.

This is a collaborative effort with Dr. Ken Wright and Jaime Winfield at Inficon, Syracuse, NY, which generously granted the quadrupole mass spectrometer and pumping system, within a very compact and poratble platform.
